About the Teacher
Alisha Brooks is a singer, songwriter, pianist, and voice and piano teacher born and raised in Mississippi. She holds a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance from Winthrop University and a Bachelor's Degree in Music from the University of Tampa. She has been singing since age 7 and won a recording contract at age 16 from Wishbone Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama for her singing and she was Miss Tampa in 1987 and Miss Bay Area in 1988. She won the Florida Forum Songwriter's Award in 1987 for her original song, "Building Up". She has been teaching voice and piano for 30 years and has directed numerous musicals and performing arts camps. She has recorded her own album and has written hundreds of songs. Recently she recorded her second album titled SACRED CALL, and she continues to sing at women's conferences, churches, and events. She is passionate about teaching and loves taking students to the next level. Her method of teaching is taking them from A to Z with a purpose. Many of her students lead worship, play for church, received scholarships for piano and voice to various universities and majored in Music. Students have also performed in Theatre in leading roles in various cities. Mrs. Brooks continues to attend many music conferences, such as NCMTA, and pedagogy events. She is active in the Charlotte Piano Teachers Forum.
